Door knocker with backplate
Central Europe, second half of 16th century
Malleable iron ring knocker fashioned from round bar incised on each side to form foliate tendrils and helices. Ring knob in the centre. Circular collared backplate decorated with repoussé armour-bearers’ heads with hats and foliate tendrils. Decorated with grooves and bulbs.
